Kasab who is accused of being one of 10 gunmen who killed 166 people, including several Americans, in a three-day rampage through the city that targeted a train station, two luxury hotels and a Jewish center goes in to the second day of his trial by the special court.

Kasab and his co-defendants — two Indians accused of helping plot the attack — have been charged with 12 criminal counts, including murder and waging war against India. If convicted, all could face death by hanging.

About five US FBI agents and 100 witnesses are expected to testify and present evidences against the accused. Four global positioning systems found on the body of the killed gunmen were analysed by FBI experts and the results are expected to serve as crucial evidence to prove that the assassins had come from Pakistan.

In his opening statement the public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam stated that Kasab was directly responsible for the deaths of 72 people and the crime was part of “a criminal conspiracy hatched in Pakistan” which could not have been committed without training from “intelligence professionals” in Pakistan.

After a series of flip flops of denials, retractions and twists, Pakistan had finally admitted that the attack was plotted in its territory ,albeit without any involvement of official agencies.
